The county town, built along the Great Ouse with the Embankment and Bedford Park at its centre. It has a large and long-established Italian community, descended from the workers recruited by the London Brick Company in the 1950s to work the very brickfields Universal is now building on.
By far the deepest supply of rooms, house shares and HMOs in the area, and the only place locally where you can reliably find something at short notice. You get a real town around you — supermarkets, a hospital, a station and a night out — rather than a village with one pub.
